Philosophy In Schools
The practice of Philosophy for Children and ‘Communities of Inquiry’ involves a long history, starting at the Institute for the Advancement of Philosophy for Children, Montclair State University in New Jersey in 1974 and introduced to Australia in 1988 by Laurence Splitter of the Centre of Philosophy with Children and Adolescents, at the Australian Council of Educational Research (ACER).Now it is an international phenomenon, with over 60 countries involved and ongoing research into its efficacy in promoting understanding, conflict resolution, critical thinking and educational support for children in both the Primary and Secondary years.
